As you know once you finish a good HR you go and start to read the introduction to the next one. That's if you are lucky, if you are like me then you probably have started in the middle of the series or at the end. Anyway I like to read the entire series provided they are good. HR writers like Mary Balogh (I found out that her last name is pronounced like Kellog) writes novels that are either related or are in a series. I just finished the Huxtable quintet.
I am trying my hand at book reviews, I welcome comments and ideas!! Nice Ones
Seducing an Angel
This is Stephan Huxtable The Earl of Merton’s Story. It is the fourth in the Huxtable Quintet by Mary Balogh (Bellog like Kellog). It tells the story of the strikingly beautiful but notorious Lady Paget. It is believed by the ton that the young beautiful widow murdered her husband with an axe of all things. Speculation runs wild when she returns to town with her small household. Left destitute by her son in law she feels she has no choice but to find herself a protector. Confident her charms will work she set her sights on the equally beautiful Stephen Huxtable. He is of course attracted to her but is interested in something more. She is sure that she can stay in control of the affair; she is doomed by not only his angelic looks, but his loving and caring nature and the determination of his formidable sisters.
I believe this one was the best of the series. Cassandra couldn’t be cold and aloof with Stephen, and he couldn’t take advantage of her circumstances. This novel dealt with some pretty heavy subjects. As Cassandra’s real story unfolds she blossoms under Stephen’s love and begins to live a normal life again. I think too that Stephen’s age,25 was unusual for these types of stories. Cassandra was no cougar!! He was just mature enough and had been taught well enough by his sisters to appreciate what he had. I highly recommend this novel!
